Inflatable World ( Good Choices Trip)
Two teachers took 15 children that had made good choices and followed school values for the term. We went to Inflatable World. The tamariki loved it. They played for 3 1/2 hours only stopping for a biscuit, drink or the toilet. They wanted me to take lots of photos of their activities. I ended up with about 55. (Mrs Bennett)
I went to Inflatable World with other children that had made Good Choices for the term. I liked the slide best and climbing up and down the wall. (Myra)
Matariki 30/6/14 - 3/7/14
It was another amazing Matariki week at Riverslea school 2014. We started Monday with a whanau, school breakfast. Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day, that was lots of fun, with Paki Paki and Whare Tapere schools. Wednesday we had a Nanny and Papa day .Miharo had 11 Nannys and Papas visiting our room. Some also helped us to prepare for the Hangi on Thursday. Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school. The children were great with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, stalls and other schools and people and whanau as well as Mayfair Kindegarten visiting. We had Camberley, Hastings Intermediate and Karamu perform as well. Henare OKeefe was DJ for part of the morning. The hangi was a highlight with Dads, Koros and whanau helping out. Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc. What am amazing successful week. Ka mau te wihi ( Mrs Bennett).
I liked the Festival best with the other schools. I sung Tutira Mai Nga Iwi.(Myra)

Miharo Learning (Literacy and Numeracy)
I am learning to use Reading, Writing and Maths apps on the ipad. I know my numbers up to 10 and some of my alphabet too ( Myra) Myra has just started school. She enjoys being part of a class and is keen to learn. She is able to use some Literacy and Numeracy apps on the ipad already. She enjoys playing both alphabet bingo and Maths bingo in the class too. ( Mrs Bennett)
Skipping (Jump Rope For Heart)
I am learning to skip. I can jump over the rope sometimes. It was too cold to go outside so Mrs Bennett took a photo of me in the classroom. (Myra) The school is involved in a Jump Rope for Heart programme. Most of Room 2 could not skip. All but one can skip forwards now. The tamariki are now learning to jump backwards and do skill jumping such as ski jump and bell jump. Most children can run around the court skipping. One boy who could not skip has gone from no skips to 30 on the spot in just 2 weeks. The programme is for 6 weeks. On June 13th 2014 we will have a Jump Rope for Heart skipping activity afternoon for the children and whanau. Children are setting goals to achieve that afternoon. The emphasis is on participation and fun. ( Mrs Bennett)
